We’re looking for a Director of Product Design to join our team in San Francisco. Our offices in San Francisco, Tokyo, and Chișinău develop the product, design, engineering, marketing and content for Crunchyroll and VRV -- we are media and technology experts, and we lead with our digital-first DNA to create experiences for our passionate communities.  

About You:

As Director of Product Design, you will be responsible for leading the design team to create the best user experience in the areas of product, UI/UX, visual, and communication design.  Developing visual solutions on products for our web, mobile, living room, and future channels. Your team will collaborate with product management, marketing & distribution, brand, community management, engineering and QA teams to create the best experience for customers.

A day in the life of our Product Design Team:

  • Manage and develop a large international team of designers. Setting clear goals, managing project loads (from concept to execution) and allocating designers accordingly.
  • Ensuring deadlines are met and setting up team members for career goals and overall success
  • Guide and mentor the team to develop best practices for ensuring a high bar of quality
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product management, engineering, user research, brand, marketing, QA, and communication design to ensure a cohesive design across all product pieces
  • Champion/Advocate for Design as an integral part of the product experience/creation as a whole


  • Minimum 10+ years design experience with at least 2+ years in a management or leadership role on a Design team and at least 5+ years shipping hardware or software products
  • Strong design portfolio with examples of well-thought out interactions and clear visuals
  • Experience and expertise in high-level product strategy
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills
  • Proven success designing branded experiences.
  • Understanding in iterative design process to identify and improve existing solutions
  • A passion for data and the impact of design on the consumer
  • Previous experience working with licensed content and/or entertainment industry is a plus.
  • A super plus for fans of anime, manga, kdrama, and/or crafting.
  • Trusty with a nerf gun.
